TUCKER ZIMMERMAN'S FIRST BOOK OF SHORT POETRY (LTD first run 100 w/w)
Tucker Zimmerman’s very limited 1st run of short form poetry dating 1972-2022. This is the 'Song-Poets' first ever published book & is dedicated to Pete Petersen. Tucker has released nine studio albums dating from 1969 to now & is currently working with BIG THIEF on a new album together, after a recent successful tour.
San Fransisco born & Belgian resident of 53 years has put together 80 beautiful, funny, surreal, mind-bending, low-key, domestic poems over 110 pages for this collection When In Flows The Sea. Available from Big Potato or selective shops including Blackwells Bookshop & Union Records.
Mr Zimmerman’s introduction as written in the book is as follows....
"I’ve never been able to identify with the word ‘poet.’ I don’t write poems. I just write. Scribble lines down in my notebook and forget about them. They are the lightest load of my creative work. Never, until now, have I taken them seriously.
Half-seriously.
The image that often comes to mind while jotting down these lines is that of the celebrated quatrain poets of the T’ang Dynasty. Li Po. Tu Fu. Wang Wei. Rumor has it (certainly apocryphal) that these poets, sat on the banks of rivers, created their masterpieces on parchment in faultless calligraphy, then, after a few moments of contemplation upon their work, cast the parchments into the river and watched them float away.
T.S. Eliot says it best for me.
Chapbook: What in modern life is the particular function of poetry
as distinguished from other forms of literature?
T.S. Eliot: Takes up less space." - Tucker Zimmerman
SHORT BIOGRAPHY
TUCKER ZIMMERMAN was born February 14, 1941, San Francisco California, studied music there from the ages of 4 to 25, and completed his studies at San Francisco State College (now University) in theory and composition in 1966.
In 1965 he began writing songs (words and music) for his own voice with harmonica and guitar and to date has written over 800 such songs.
In 1966 he received a Fulbright Scholarship to study composition in Rome, Italy with Gofreddo Petrassi. In 1967 the scholarship was renewed for a second year. During this time he began to perform his songs in various folk clubs in Rome.
After a two-year stay in London where he recorded his first album of songs, he returned to the continent and began living in Belgium. From 1970 to 1984 he played hundreds of solo concerts all over Europe, especially in Belgium, Switzerland and Germany where he was regarded as a « song poet ». During this period he also continued to write songs and recorded 5 more LPs. In 1984 he stopped touring as a solo performer. His creative output from then until 1996 was divided into two media: musical composition and the writing of fiction.
Tucker is currently working on three records to our knowledge and a book of long poems.

If Wooden Shjips traded their sails for a prairie schooner, this is what you might hear them playing around the campfire at night on the Great Plains: homespun country-rock with a hint of psychedelia. Wonderful stuff, from start to finish. neu-mann

Gonzo. Passion. The Ming Vase. Haunting and beautiful. Every listen brings a new favorite.

Entire album is excellent. As is the rest of the catalog. Go back to 1970...take the Dead and Floyd and roll them up. Yet completely different.
Just plain old GOOD MUSIC. Ed Fransko

Another lovely album from Dave Evans which follows on nicely from 'The Words In Between' but sadly without Adrienne. Nevertheless, essential to any folk collection. peelthepaint
